Unlike commodity products, antiquarian and rare books are one-of-a-kind. The same copy can be listed on eBay, AbeBooks, Amazon, and Etsy simultaneously because there’s only one of it.

The strategy

  1. List everywhere by default. Different buyers shop on different platforms.
  2. Per-platform pricing. AbeBooks buyers expect higher prices. eBay is more competitive. Etsy attracts gift buyers willing to pay a premium for presentation.
  3. Delist on payment confirmation. When a book sells on one platform, delist from others — but wait until payment is confirmed, not just “sold.”
