When to use it
- Books published after 1970 (when ISBNs became standard)
- Books with a visible, undamaged barcode
- When you need a fast, low-cost identification
Limitations
- No barcode, no scan. Pre-1970 books, many hardcovers, and books with damaged barcodes won’t work. Use Quick Snap instead.
- Lookup databases don’t always have edition-specific data (printing number, edition statement). You may need to fill in these details manually or via Lexi.
- Book club editions often share ISBNs with trade editions — double-check the publisher.
How it works
- Point your phone camera at the ISBN barcode
- The scanner reads the 10 or 13-digit ISBN
- LumiLexicon queries Open Library and Google Books for metadata
