Be specific
Lexi works best when you’re direct. Instead of “tell me about my books,” try “show me my top 5 most valuable first editions.”Use natural language
You don’t need to know filter names. All of these work:- “What do I have by Faulkner?”
- “Anything published before the Civil War?”
- “Books I haven’t photographed yet”
- “How much did I spend on acquisitions this year?”
Lexi picks the right tool
When you ask a question, Lexi automatically decides whether to:- Search your inventory (returns book cards)
- Pull stats (returns aggregates — no individual books)
- Check financials (returns P&L summary)
- Look up details on a specific book
- Answer from knowledge (no database query needed)
Save money on chat costs
- Simple questions cost under a penny
- Lexi uses small result limits for superlative questions (“most expensive” = 3-5 books, not all 300)
- For aggregate questions (“how many books do I have”), Lexi uses stats tools that return counts, not full records
- Conversation history adds to cost over time. Start a new conversation for unrelated topics.
Things Lexi can discuss without tools
Lexi doesn’t need to query your database for general book knowledge:- Condition terminology (foxing, cocked spine, bumped corners)
- Edition identification (number lines, publisher conventions)
- Market advice (is this genre worth collecting, where to sell)
- Book care (handling, storage, shipping)
- Literary history and context
